Description
Synopsis
Epirus, Greece, 1925. An avalanche seals the pass, and the village of Ághios Christóphoros shuts itself in for the Twelve Days of Christmas. People are disappearing. Sleepers wake screaming, or blind. A girl lies dead beneath the Devil's Cliff.
Athená, a young folklorist from Thessaloníki, has come chasing her old professor's field notes. Odysséas, scarred by his service in the Greco-Turkish War and now a medical student, was hired by her father to protect her. She sees what others can't. He hears what they won't say aloud.
For twelve nights, the Paganá are said to climb up out of the earth. Long ago, a saint bound the Old Terror under the mountain, and they were never seen again. Every winter since, villagers have kept the old rituals. This year they won't be enough.
The community reaches for its oldest defences and blames the dark. You find yourself at the eye of it: two strangers, one snowed-in road, and just a few days to learn whether the thing taking people is the one from the folk tales, or one wearing a familiar face.
In Ághios Christóphoros, every doorway keeps a charm, every ritual a reason. And during the Twelve Days, old memories wake.
History
The Liturgy of St. Mormó grew from our interest in a side of Greek culture rarely explored in games: the folk beliefs, oral traditions and rural life of modern Greece beyond classical mythology.
Set in Epirus in 1925, the game draws on historical and folkloric research into the region, from protective rites and supernatural entities to the beliefs surrounding the Twelve Days of Christmas and the customs of everyday village life.
The Paganá, Mormó, the alafroískiotoi (fey-touched people), and the supernatural traditions surrounding the Twelve Days of Christmas have never before been depicted in a video game.
These traditions are more than background lore. Culture, social knowledge and folk belief shape how the protagonists investigate, what they notice and understand, and how many of the game’s problems can be approached and solved.
Features
- Two playable leads. Switch between Athená and Odysséas — her Second Sight reveals the unseen, his Eavesdropping catches what people only whisper.
- Puzzles grounded in folklore. Rural life, customs and superstitions shape many of the challenges you face, from wards and offerings to rites and social conventions. Investigate, question, collect and combine as you go deeper into the mystery.
- A place between worlds. A camp of Smyrna refugees, the armchair politics of the coffeehouse, the grotesque costumes of the Bell-bearers, and hymns sung for a dog-headed saint.
- Hand-painted pixel art. Snow-covered landscapes, oil-lamp interiors and folk horror made of silence, shadow and the half-seen.
- An original musical score. Traditional Epirote instruments — klaríno, violí, laoúto, daoúli — woven with modern twists into themes you'll catch yourself humming.
